The game that must not be named
We went to a friend's house for the SuperBowl. They invited another couple who were pretty cool also. We grilled steak, shrimp and zucchini, they brought a wonderful beef brisket chili, the German potato salad was bacon-y delicious as was the brownies and boursin cheese.
The game was close and exciting. J and I were pulling for the Steelers because I have friends who are Steelers fans as is J's dad.
No money was riding on the game so there was some Mario Kart Wii in the 3rd and 4th quarter. That game will be mine, oh yes, it will be mine.
My favorite commercial was by far Rhys Millen and the new Hyundai Genesis coupe. That was the yellow car that was sliding around a race track. I really hope it sells well. In fact, go buy one! 2010 Hyundai Genesis Coupe! Lightish weight (below 3000 lbs.), RWD, 3.8 Liter 6 cylinder, and pretty cool styling. I had hoped for around 2000 lbs. and a 4 cylinder but I think Nissan and Toyota/Subaru will deliver on that front, at least the 4 cylinder, probably not the 2000 lbs. It isn't a Lotus. Edit: Haha! I was checking out the e-brochure and it comes with either the 306 hp 3.8L V6 or the 210 hp turbo 4 cylinder! Hooray! (power numbers at the flywheel probably)
The new supercharged Audi A6 had a pretty cool commercial. Jason Statham, of Snatch and Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels fame, was shown to be driving, not sure if he actually drove it or not.
In that weird, old vs. new, Pepsi Co. commercial, you got a quick view of the new Nissan Cube, which should give the Scion xB a serious run for its quirky boxiness.
The cars.com commercial sucked because that super confident guy was looking at a Pontiac Grand Prix on his phone! A freakin' Pontiac! They made the Aztek you know, and yes I'm still pissed about it.
Other people like the Budweiser Great American Lager (owned by Belgians) horse ads. The cg bug Coca-Cola ad was also liked by others.
We also went to a party on Saturday night and I got drunk for the first time in a while. J was my designated driver and she did a wonderful job.
Back to the grindstone!

Wii-Mania!
I'm so glad that J and I picked up a Wii this summer. I literally can't go into a gaming store without overhearing someone ask for a Wii. I would sell mine right now for $400. Did you hear? Mario Kart Wii is coming out in sometime in Spring 2008 and it will be online! Finally I can battle to my hearts content! Nintendo is also claiming that first timers will be able to keep up with veterans. We shall see Nintendo. And it comes with a wheel too! Check the video from E3 here.
I'm also very excited about Wii Fitness. That one will be packaged with a board that can tell where your center of gravity is and will involve games that have you heading soccer balls away, yoga, and push-ups. They say it will have 4 genres of games for a total of 40 or so games. Sounds like a great way to exercise on those chilly Sat. mornings.
This was brought on by noting the 2 people standing in front of the local GameStop at 9 am when the store opens at 10 am. I hope they had a couple Wiis in stock. The other Wii was at the mall GameStop (which wouldn't let me play any of their demo games because there were "too many people" in the store during the holidays, there were 8 people in there including the 2 workers, whatever Bud) where a trio of friends waited in front of Target to get a Wii and they were 67th in line. Guess how many Wiis Target had? Right, 66. Doh! So they were giving their friend a hard time because he wanted to stop for a breakfast sandwich instead of going straight to Target (which sells food by the way). I hope he learned his lesson.
J and I opted to donate money in people's names for Christmas this year. We adopted a sea turtle, a sea otter, a snow leopard and an elephant for our family this year. We're not sure how this is going to go over, but I think it will be okay once or twice. Next year real tangible presents will be purchased. We adopted these animals through the non-profit Defenders of Wildlife.
What did you get for people?

From where does it come?
Originally this was titled "Where does it come from?" but I switched it. I suppose it's better grammar but I don't feel good about it.
There is a water leak in our lab. It happens once or twice every 3-6 months. Maintanence has been up here at least 7 times. We think it comes from a loose pipe under a neighboring lab's sink. It most definitely is not coming from any of our sinks. We flood the labs downstairs, not our own. So we're fed up and just ignore it instead of trying to fix it or explain to maintenance that it isn't our sinks that are the problem.
I've just been informed that we have a 9 am meeting with Bossman tomorrow, so I'll need to get some things in order for that meeting.
Last lab is today! Woo-hoo!
I also discovered that one of my lab students is apparently a Mario Kart 64 player and is supposed to be pretty good, so we're having a showdown tonight in the student center at 7:30. It's on! I'll be sure to let you know how it goes.
