4-21!

Yesterday was of course 4-20 aka Hitler's birthday aka April 20th. I hope you enjoyed it. It was great weather down here.

Earth Day is tomorrow! Hooray! Thankfully, it will be nice and sunny so I can ride my bike in and then swing by the Earth Day booths on campus. I would like to volunteer but that doesn't make the priority list right now.

J is really helping me with my writing. I was going down a bit of the wrong path, or wasn't on the right path long enough, but she has really stepped up and given me guidance and feedback and it's paying off.

I burnt our lab's water pump to a crisp over the weekend. I left it at 50C for 3 days, it ran dry, caught on fire, tripped circuit breakers and made me ever so distraught yesterday.

I'm not a huge PETA fan, because if the animals are treated humanely and fed a natural diet of grass and hay, they're delicious! But I absolutely understand it takes way more resources to get meat on my plate than veggies, so J and I are trying to live a little more "3rd World" style and limit our protein to mostly veggies and beans and not too much meat, and even when we do have meat, make sure we don't eat tons and it was responsibly harvested.

So we made vegan-ish blueberry pancakes (we have vegan butter from my week long vegan experiment but it's flavorless, so these were cooked in butter) which have no eggs and soy milk. We used basically this recipe but added a splash of vanilla. Delicious! Really light and fluffy and the frozen blueberries we used didn't break and turn the batter all purple.

Later that day we made a shepherd's pie with ground goat purchased from Split Creek Goat Farm, and that goat was tasty!

So for Earth Day, carpool, walk, bike, take public transit, eat some vegetables, plant some vegetables, get outside and enjoy Earth!

So I'm currently addicted to TBTL aka Too Beautiful To Live on 97.3 KIRO FM out of Seattle, E-Loh, Ryan, Lyric and their squirrels turned me on to it and I must say it's pretty hilarious. Luke Burbank, Jen "Flash" Andrews and "Japan's #1 mixer" Sean DeTorre are the personalities and they're all pretty awesome. They talk about the news, pop culture, themselves, Seattle, music and splice in quotes from TV, movies, the interwebs, and others. They are fans of Futurama, Arrested Development, The Simpsons and some other actually popular shows that you might like too. I am what they call a "timebandit" because I don't listen to the show live but instead grab it on itunes. I highly recommend you check it out if you think your local radio sucks or are tired of downloading or paying for mp3s.

Also if you're wondering why you're fat, this website might shed some light on the subject. This is why you're fat. Be warned though some of the images are disturbing. The hot dog on a stick covered in fries almost made me pass out. Also how the hell are you supposed to eat a corn dog pizza?

Is your friend's birthday in 3 weeks? Do they love vodka? Do they love bacon? Do you have a nice empty bottle, some vodka and some bacon? Then what are you waiting for? Go make them some Bacon Vodka! Courtesy of Brownie Points Blog and McAuliflower.

Let's hurl a Brick E Mart!

- Bart Simpson during the "Who Needs the Kwik E Mart" song by the Simpson Family and Apu Nahasapeemapetilon. (I almost spelled that right the first time, I only missed the "i" and "o")

I grilled some Spanish burgers and an eggplant last night. The recipe for the Spanish burgers is 1-1.5 lbs. ground beef, one Goya seasoning packet with azafran and some sofrito from a jar by Goya.

The eggplant I peeled and let drain for 10-30 minutes. If I can find tahini somewhere, it will become baba ghanoush or baba ghannouj if you use Alton Brown's spelling.

I'll let you know how it turns out.

I forgot to give you the link to Les' blog about the 2nd Survivorman season. There ya go.

Ever heard of Norman Borlaug? I hadn't really but he revolutionized modern farming and agriculture and essentially saved millions of lives by using the land to its fullest and getting dramatic increases in food production. He received the Congressional Gold Medal, our nation's highest civilian award, and it hasn't received any coverage in our country's national media. So he isn't a blond white woman and his story is kinda sciency, it doesn't change the fact that it's a big story that has been ignored. Oh, he's also only one of two living Americans who have received the Nobel Peace Prize. Jimmy Carter is the other.

Please read Gregg Easterbrook's take on "Greatest Living American Ignored."

I'll snap that picture today. Promise.

Plans for this weekend? Waiting for the Simpsons Movie to come out, not going to see Transformers, finishing up the house, going to Ikea for some efficient use of small space decorating items, so watch out ATL, we're coming!
